The story of Setem goes like this:
The governor of Melaka wanted to be immortalized on a piece of stamp so he commissioned a watch maker to fashion a stamp in his likeness. Unfortunately, there's a flaw in the design and the stamp's existence was laughed off. Until his grandchild picked it up.
Cut to the present. The stamp is being showcased at Melaka Museum and since it's a rare stamp, one of its kind, its value is about USD4 million. This catches the eyes of many individuals who want the money for various reasons.
That's when the action/comedy starts...
Before Setem, I have not seen a single Kabir Bhatia movie. I saw the trailer for Setem a few times but I did not really caught the Setem bug yet, although there was a Justin Timberlake joke at the end of the trailer that made me laugh.
I turned down my colleague's invite the first time he asked me to go to the Setem preview. My reason? Manik Urai by-election. But with what's been happening (loooonger story)...
But screw it. I went and I'm glad I did. The movie was quite good. The humor's not too slapsticky and did not look down on the audience at all.
The scenes move forward flawlessly. Can't remember the last time I saw those kinds of scenes/directions in a movie. Must be tough to film. Hats off to Kabir and crew. The action was quite good too and not fake.
Acting-wise, the movie's quite good. Most of them gave good performances but the standouts were Rashidi, Bront, Vanida, Que, Isma and Sathiya. Well, Sathiya was playing himself so he should be good yes? Afdlin was also kinda playing the same character from most of his movies, but the one from Sumo-Lah came to mind...
All in all, I'd say it's a pretty good outing. :)
